Vedic Teachings

On the question of Prikshit, Sukdev Goswami described the way of life a person should adopt in 2nd chapter of Srimadbhagvat Mahapuran vol-1 (shlokas 1 to 5). Sukdev ji said Brahma ji created the universe same as it was before the pralaya (destruction at kalpa end). The narratives in the Vedas is such that the person start wandering in the illusory realms of heavens etc. and gets lost in the dreams of desires. He ,however, does not get the true happiness anywhere in the materialistic world.

Therefore, a wise person should engage with material objects only to the extent that is necessary. He should keep his mind always firm in the understanding of their emptiness & impermanence. He should never become careless, even for a moment. If worldly objects come by themselves through prarabdha karmas from past births, then one should accept them as destiny and not become attached or need not make special efforts to acquire them. God has provided everybody in this universe with all basic amenities i.e. when one can sleep on the ground then what is the need for a bed? When God has provided arms which can serve as pillows, then what use is a separate pillow? When one can drink water with cupped hands then why collect utensils in this world? If life can be sustained by wearing tree barks or even remaining unclothed, then what is the need for fine garments? Is there no scrap clothes available even to cover oneself ? When hungry, do the trees—whose only purpose to do charity for others will not provide fruits and flowers? Have the rivers dried up completely for those who seek water when thirsty? Have the mountain caves shut off to those who seek shelter?

Even if all these were denied, would the Lord not protect His devotee who has taken refuge in Him? In such a situation, why wise people need to indulge in flattery of rich (blinded with intoxication of wealth) to get favours.
